National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE) M.Phil. Admissions 2016







The utmost desire of every student after completing their graduation is to secure M.Phil. admission in any of the well reputed institutes. Many of my friends asked me why I am writing such recommendations that would help graduates to get admission in the best universities of Pakistan. My untiring struggle to secure M.Phil. admission motivated me to write guidelines so that everyone passing through same stage would make it done with flying colors. For all biotechnologists and microbiologists, to apply in NIBGE is best opportunity. You can apply up to 29th July 2016.  NIBGE is the best institute of Biotechnology and Genetic engineering and to award M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees it is affiliated with Pakistan Institute of Engineering & Applied Sciences (PIEAS). Moreover NIBGE also has affiliation with International Centre for Genetic Engineering and biotechnology (ICGEB).

Who can apply:
  • MBBS
  • DVM
  • PHARM. D
  • Agricultural Sciences
  • 4 years BS/M.Sc. degree in the field of Natural sciences (Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Zoology)

How to apply:

                Admission form is available on website, just take the print and fill the form and send all the documents (attested copies of the certificates of qualification, domicile, character certificate, detailed marks certificate, three passport size photographs and no objection certificate) through TSC addressing “Director, National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE), P.O.BOX 577, Jhang Road, Faisalabad”. Don’t forget to attach the bank draft of Rs. 2000 from any bank and drawn on the name “National Bank of Pakistan (AARI) Branch Faisalabad”. Application forms received without bank draft wouldn’t be entertained.  

Eligibility:

The following point are directing criteria of eligibility:
  • For M.Phil./M.Phil. leading to Ph.D. minimum qualification of 16 years of education and at least 2.5 CGPA (out of 4) or equivalent in 4 years BS/M.Sc. degree in the field of Natural sciences ( Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Zoology)/Agricultural Sciences/MBBS/DVM/Pharm D from HEC recognized university.
  • First class academic career, however, one 2nd division is allowed except in the final degree.
  • The candidates of M.Phil. leading to PhD. May apply on the bases of GAT(General) test conducted by NTS as per HEC criterion or NIBGE admission test.
  • A non-refundable bank draft/pay order of Rs. 2000 in the name of NIBGE should accompany the application form.
  • Result awaited students can also apply but they have to provide result at the time of interview.
  • Selected candidates must submit university original character and migration certificates.

Entrance test and Interview:

            M.Phil./M.Phil. leading to Ph.D. candidates have to appear for written test and interview. Entry test for will conduct on 9th august 2016. For M.Phil. candidates outside Faisalabad interview will be taken on 9th august whereas those belonging to Faisalabad would appear on 10th of august 2016 for interview. The interview of M.Phil. leading to Ph.D. candidates would conduct on august 11, 2016. The written test comprises of two parts each of 35 marks. In the first part general question related to biology will be asked whereas the second potion will be related to your major degree i.e DVM, chemistry, biotechnology etc. No negative marking in the test.  The result will be announced after 2 hours of test and after that interview session starts. There are major four division i.e. Health, Agriculture, industrial and environmental. The allocation of labs in specific division is also decided at the time of interview. Fsc. biology books can be consulted to prepare for the general test. Total number of seats are 28.

Who can apply:
          The graduates having degree in following disciplines can apply in the University for M.Phil. Admission in Faculty of Biological Sciences:
  • MBBS
  • DVM
  • PHARM. D
  • MSc/BS Hons (4-years) in Microbiology, Pharmacy, Zoology, Animal Biochemistry, Animal Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Animal Sciences, Plant Sciences, Biochemistry and Botany
  • MSc/ BS/BSc Hons (4 years) degree or its equivalent in any field of Biological Sciences/ Agriculture from HEC recognized University.

How to apply:

Admission form can easily be downloaded from the website along with a Challan of the Habib Bank Ltd. OR Askari Bank Ltd. amounting to Rs.2000.

Admission forms are not available at the QAU Campus

Eligibility:

Microbiology graduates can apply in the discipline of Bioinformatics and Microbiology. Similarly DVM graduates are eligible to apply in Animal Sciences, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, and Microbiology. The detailed list to apply in a particular discipline has been displayed on the website. The following points indicates the eligibility criteria:
  • The candidate must be holding MSc degree or its equivalent in the relevant discipline
  • Candidate must have secured first division in MSc or BSc or at least 60% marks in BS (Hons) and all other 4-5 years degrees.
  • No third division in BSc or MSc
  • If candidate have 3rd division in FSC then he should have obtained first division in MSc or BSc or at least 60% marks in BS (Hons) and all other 4-5 years degrees.
There is no need of GAT to apply in QAU

Admission Requirement:

The applicant must meet the eligibility criteria.
  • No Objection Certificate from the employer is required to be attached with Admission Form and routed through Proper Channel in case of in-service applicants (for those applicants who are doing job as well).
  • The applicants must provide official certificate showing percentage of marks obtained in MSc/BS Hons/4-5 year programme.
  • No objection certificate and equivalence certificate

 Entrance test:

The aggregate is made collectively by taking 50% test and 50% academics. To explain the procedure of entrance test I’d explain through the example of microbiology as a graduation degree. The entrance test of microbiology covers three main domains i.e. Industrial Microbiology, Medical Microbiology and Environmental Microbiology so you have to prepare all these subjects in detail if you really want to get admission. The test comprises of 80 multiple choice questions with the total of 40 marks. The result of test is announced after 3 hours of test and interview will be conducted on the same day. Top 60 candidates will be called for the interview and out of them only 40 will be selected. The interview accounts for 10 marks in which the panel ask about your major interest in research and then all the questioning will be related to the interest you’ve mentioned. Prescott's Microbiology and Microbiology: An Introduction by Gerard J. Tortora are books recommended for preparation.

University of the Punjab Postgraduate Admissions (2016)

Eligibility:


How to apply:

Advertisement will display on university website and newspaper by the end of July. Admission forms will be available at the respective departments. Separate form for applying in separate departments and the price of each form varies Rs. 300 – Rs. 500.

Entrance test:

Note: This year university of the Punjab is conducting GRE based test of 40 marks for M.Phil. Admissions, which includes questions on verbal reasoning (English), analytical reasoning (logical thinking) and quantitative reasoning (mathematics). The details will be given after the advertisement of admission.

In spite of GRE based test, each department will conduct its own entrance test. Don’t forget to bring the equivalence certificate and provisional certificate on the day of entrance test. The details of the entrance tests is given in the description of each department.

School of Biological Sciences:

Entrance test of SBS contain 120 multiple choice questions (M.C.Qs) each containing 1 marks with no negative marking. To pass the test you have to score 50% i.e. 60 marks but only top 50 candidates who have cleared the test will get an interview call. Test result is announced within a week and list of candidates eligible for interview will also be displayed on the website as well as the respective department. Test is generally from different fields of biology and some calculations related to pH and solution preparation.  F.Sc. Pre-medical biology books are referred for preparation. In SBS there are total 15 seats. The degree title will be “Biological sciences”.

Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics: 

Test comprises of 150 M.C.Qs each containing 1 marks with no negative marking. To pass the test you have to score 50% i.e. 75 marks and all who have cleared the test will be called for interview. Test result is announced within a week and list of candidates eligible for interview will also be displayed on the website as well as the respective department. Test majorly covers microbiology and genetics, so you have to consult any book of genetics as well as microbiology. There are 15 seats for M.Phil. at MMG. The degree title will be “Microbiology & Molecular Genetics”.

Institute of Biochemistry & Biotechnology:

Entrance test contain 100 multiple choice questions (M.C.Qs) each containing 1 marks with no negative marking. To pass the test you have to score 50% i.e. 50 marks and all who have cleared the test will be called for interview. Test result is announced within a week and list of candidates eligible for interview will also be displayed on the website as well as the respective department.  Books related to biotechnology and molecular biology are needed to be studied. In IBB there are total 40 seats out of which 20 seat are for biotechnology and the rest 20 for biochemistry. The degree title will be “Biotechnology”.

Center for excellence in molecular biology:

Test comprises of 66 M.C.Qs and 4 blanks each containing 1 marks with negative marking of 0.5 marks. To pass the test you have to score 50% i.e. 35 marks and all who have cleared the test will be called for interview. Test result is announced within a week and list of candidates eligible for interview will also be displayed on the website as well as the respective department. If you successfully cleared the test, then you must check the research activities from the department website before appearing in the interview. Test majorly covers microbiology, immunology, plant biotechnology, health biotechnology and genetics. F.Sc. Pre-medical biology books can be referred for preparation. There are 45 seats for M.Phil. at CEMB. The degree title will be “molecular biology”. 

Center for applied molecular biology:

 In 2015 the admissions and the tests of CAMB were delayed as compared to other departments. So, keep yourself updated according to current rules. Test comprises of 66 M.C.Qs and 4 blanks each containing 1 marks with negative marking of 0.5 marks. To pass the test you have to score 50% i.e. 35 marks and all who have cleared the test will be called for interview. Test result is announced within a week and list of candidates eligible for interview will also be displayed on the website as well as the respective department.  Test majorly covers microbiology, immunology, forensic sciences, health biotechnology and genetics. F.Sc. Pre-medical biology books can be referred for preparation. There are 25 seats for M.Phil. at CAMB. The degree title will be “molecular biology”.

**Equivalence certificate:

Equivalence certificate is needed before applying for the admission. Same equivalence certificate can be used if you are applying in more than one department but during application you have to tell the names of all the departments to the admin officer where you want to apply for admission.

Postgraduate Admissions (2016) in University of veterinary and animal sciences:

Eligibility:

          Four years education (130 credit hours) after HSSC/F.Sc/Grade 12 equivalents. (16 years of education) Minimum 2nd Div. with 50% marks according annual systems or minimum CGPA 2.50/4.00 according to semester system from HEC recognized University in related field of study. Microbiologists are eligible to apply in the following departments.

           Now a days admissions are open at UVAS .  Application form is online available on university website and you can also download prospectus. Deposit Rs. 2000/- at Habib Bank Ltd., Civil Line branch in Account no. 01277900351801 or in the form of a bank draft for the admission process. Separate form will be filled will an additional Rs. 500, if you want to apply in two disciplines (same rule for more disciplines). You can apply up to 23rd of June 2016. Don’t forget to check the list of eligible candidates at university website on 4th of July 2016.

Entrance test:

          Test of eligible candidates would held on 12th & 13th of July 2016. UVAS will conduct online test at campus I.T lab. Don’t forget to bring your CNIC on the test day. In the test there’ll be 50 M.C.Qs of 50 marks, out of which 40 M.C.Qs will be from respective discipline and 10 will cover the portion of GAT general. Test qualifying score is 50% i.e. 25 marks and test clearance is mandatory to continue the admission process.

Department of Applied Microbiology:

            This department is of best choice for microbiology graduates as it provides best teaching and research facilities. In 2015 total number of seats were 25 and may vary this year. The entrance test majorly cover fields of fundamental microbiology, general virology, general immunology, vaccinology and veterinary microbiology.
